Everything’s Changing

I’ve been watching the abdication of responsibility by our president and his minions and the attempts to shift blame for their lack of competency.  An administration which has placed personal self interest above human rights in dealings with other countries is now being asked by its hard right supporters to punish China for the current pandemic. A so-called “Christian” evangelical right - the same evangelicals who promote right to life in the womb then  deprive them of decent food, housing and education.

This is the same administration which pulled the rug from under a nuclear deal with a country which was trending toward a more moderate and secular government, eliminating any opportunity to reduce the influence of the more radical elements there.  That turned a blind eye to the death and dismemberment of a journalist — an American resident — in favor of being stroked and rewarded by a repressive regime.

This is the same administration that walked away from our world leadership role. Which has denigrated heroes and elevated criminals. Which does not understand the difference between a leader and a bully, between civil servants and lackeys, between loyalty and honor, between citizens and subjects.

This is an administration headed by an incompetent who does not know how to build so instead destroys. Who is incapable of admitting errors so blames everyone else. Who is so afraid of being laughed at he touts his failures as accomplishments. Who is so frightened of strong women he must objectify and denigrate them. Who thinks fear is the same thing as respect. Who sees himself as strong when really he is the weakest of men.

This is an administration of comic book characters — eunuchs, jesters, Barbie and Ken dolls, snake oil and bible thumping salvation salesmen and women — kowtowing to an emperor whose gold plated facade masks a cesspool underneath. A comic book authored by an evil machine made of those who believe they know their god better than God herself.

It’s refreshing to see the examples of strong, true leadership emerge around our country, along with people doing their best to create positivity and hope from the depths of despair. While the administration has failed, others in our government remain strong and our people persevere. Our military building hospitals, the health workers at the front lines, all the unsung men and women who are keeping things running in this crazy world, and those who are staying home so as to not become part of the problem — we will get through this.

And when it is tamed (it will never be over) it is “ We the People” who will rebuild a strong, resilient, equitable America and once again become the world looks to and respects.

And by the way — this is our country, not Trump’s, not Jared’s, not Modly’s or Miller’s. We will remain resolved

that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
